Issues After Disabling Auto-assign Public IP on EC2 Instance (Security Groups and RDS Instance Missing)

0

Hi,

I recently disabled the Auto-assign Public IP feature on my EC2 instance in AWS. However, after doing so, I noticed the following issues:

The EC2 instance appears to have lost its associated security groups. The contents of the EC2 Ubuntu server seem to have been wiped out. My RDS instance, which was previously associated with the same VPC, has completely disappeared from the RDS dashboard. I know this might sound ridiculous, but let me clarify that I did not accidentally delete anything. Could disabling the Auto-assign Public IP have caused the loss of these resources? Or was there something else that might have led to this issue?

Any insights or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

No, changing that setting couldn't have caused all the effects you're describing.

I suggest you first check that the region selection in the upper right-hand corner of the console view is set to the correct region, and ensure that the correct region continues to be selected when you're looking for the RDS instances in the RDS console, for example.

If you've selected or been defaulted to a different region, the EC2 instance you're seeing wouldn't be the one whose IP address settings you modified but a completely different instance. That would explain why the security group associations aren't meeting your expectations. It would also explain why you aren't seeing any RDS databases in the console: they would still exist but in the region where they reside and not the region you're viewing.

  • You were absolutely right! I found a region where all my resources were still there. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. Everything is working now. Thanks a lot!
