AI was doing so well until the final paragraph - You've got the option of 2025 as well as 2022. I'd be encouraging newer releases over old. If they've got a specific application requirement for win10 - likely Server 2022 isn't going to help here: the clue is in the name
Why must it be Windows 10 - what is the driver for that? What's blocking them from moving to 11, or indeed a server os?
1. BYOL Minimum Requirement
Unfortunately, there is no exception to the minimum commitment requirement for BYOL WorkSpaces. When using Bring Your Own License for Windows 10 or 11 on Amazon WorkSpaces, you must meet a certain minimum commitment of WorkSpaces per AWS Region where you want to deploy. This is because BYOL WorkSpaces are launched on physically dedicated hardware to meet license compliance requirements with Microsoft. For a single WorkSpace deployment, BYOL would not be a viable option.
2. Windows 10 License — Purchase and Import
While Amazon WorkSpaces does support importing Windows 10 BYOL images through the ImportWorkspaceImage API, and the image must be an already licensed Amazon EC2 image that you own, the practical viability is limited by two factors:
- The minimum commitment requirement mentioned above
- Windows 10 Enterprise reached its end-of-support on October 14, 2025, meaning Microsoft is no longer providing security updates or support for the operating system
Even if you could technically import a Windows 10 image, running an unsupported operating system would pose security and compliance risks for your environment.
3. Recommended Alternative
For a small deployment that doesn't meet the BYOL minimum commitment, your best option is to use one of the pre-configured public bundles available in Amazon WorkSpaces. These bundles come with AWS-provided licenses and don't require the minimum commitment. The public bundles support various hardware configurations (Value, Standard, Performance, Power, etc.) and can be launched through the AWS Management Console.
While Windows Server 2022 can provide a desktop-like experience, the standard recommendation for single-user desktop virtualization would be to use the available public WorkSpaces bundles, which are specifically designed for end-user computing scenarios and include appropriate licensing.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the response!
The users currently run their RPA software on Windows 10 laptops in their existing on-premises setup.There is no hard technical dependency on Windows 10 specifically — we just need to confirm that the RPA application runs without issues on whatever OS WorkSpaces provides natively.
Also i just want to know and confrim - will Windows Server 2022 or 2025 (with Desktop Experience) fully support standard RPA software that currently runs on Windows 10? Are there any known compatibility issues or missing components we should be aware of?
No one knows what your software depenacnies are, this question cant be answered. Go test it.
