We need to migrate 200G data from AS/400 (Database is DB2/400) to AWS (MySQL). Any lead please. How to do this one or anyone had done this in past.

  • We at Micro Focus do this all the time. We have tools to automate this data migration.

AWS DMS does not support Db2 on AS/400 at the moment.

Look into Precisely instead which supports near real-time replication from midrange systems including AS/400: https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2023/11/aws-mainframe-modernization-replication-precisely-ibm-i/

  • is precisely connect supports bidirectional synchronization (not only changes made in DB2 will be replicated to AWS RDS, but also changes made in AWS RDS will be replicated to DB2(AS/400)?

At this moment, AWS DMS does not support Db2/400 as a source. There are CDC tools like Qlik Replicate that can migrate data from Db2/400 to Amazon RDS for MySQL.

You can also use an ETL tool like AWS Glue to extract, transform and load data from Db2/400 to Amazon RDS for MySQL.

We are also looking for solution/options to replicate DB2 database running on IBMi (aka AS400) to AWS. Please share any ideas/options/solutions which we were already implemented for this use case.
