Root account locked out by failed Dashlane passkey MFA, domain registered through Amazon Registrar, all DNS/email down for 3 weeks

-2

I am completely locked out of my AWS root account due to a FIDO2 passkey (stored in Dashlane) that stopped authenticating in early February 2026. The passkey was created in late 2024. Dashlane presents the credential to AWS but authentication fails every time. There is no fallback MFA device and no IAM user on the account.

What makes this situation especially severe is that my domain is registered through Amazon Registrar and all DNS is managed through Route 53 on this same account. Because I cannot access Route 53, all DNS records are unreachable. This means:

  • My main website is down (DNS not resolving)
  • My e-commerce store is down (DNS not resolving)
  • All business email is down (MX records not resolving)

This has created a circular dependency that makes normal recovery impossible:

  1. I cannot sign in because the passkey MFA fails
  2. The alternative authentication flow fails (no phone verification was offered)
  3. I cannot receive AWS support replies because they are being sent to my business email, which does not resolve because DNS is down
  4. DNS is down because I cannot access Route 53
  5. I cannot access Route 53 because I cannot sign in

What I have tried:

  • Passkey authentication via Dashlane on desktop: FAILED
  • Passkey via QR code / cross-device: FAILED
  • "Trouble signing in?" > alternative factors flow: FAILED (returns "Authentication failed")
  • Submitted a support case in early February
  • Received one response from support on February 11, but likely could not receive or reply due to email being down
  • Resubmitted from a personal email address
  • Submitted through the MFA support form

The passkey failure may be related to a documented Dashlane service outage on February 4, 2026 (per StatusGator). I have contacted Dashlane separately to investigate credential integrity.

I am happy to share account details privately with any AWS team members who can assist.

This is a small business that has been completely offline for three weeks with revenue lost daily. Has anyone successfully resolved a passkey MFA lockout on a root account when the alternative authentication flow also fails? Is there any other escalation path beyond the standard MFA support form?

Any guidance from the community or AWS team members would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your response. I’ve reviewed the information provided, but I’m still unable to overcome the login challenge. Since our email account is currently unavailable, we’re unable to access the option to reset our password. Could someone from the Amazon AWS team please assist me with this issue?
