AuroraDB MySQL Cloning: How fast is it?

0

Considering moving to Aurora DB for MySQL. I have a MySQL DB (5 TB) and I'm wondering if I should move to Aurora. The clone feature sounds great for debugging. How fast is it in reality? (I would believe that setting up a cluster and getting things ready would take me at least 10 minutes, right?)

Thank you for asking your question.

Unfortunately, currently we don't have SLA on Aurora database cloning. It depends on various conditions. One note here is after you have 15 clones, the next clone that you create is a full copy, it means clone takes longer time than usual. We highly recommend do a test with real workload before using new feature.

Please see our document for more detail.

  • Appreciate it! The bit about the full copy is very helpful. Thanks.
