Free Tier-reduce Storage and Time Consumed monthly

0

Hello Gents,

I have a Postgresql database on RDS using Free Tier, last month I realized that DB Storage and Time passed 90 % of my free tier quotas, I did some searching and find the solution to reduce used time by stopping the database by scheduling using the system manager, however, I can't find a way to optimize DB storage.

What is this storage used for? and if my database data is very small - by any means can't be 20 GB- how can i reduce this usage per month?

Thanks in advance..

The storage is used for storing your data in the database on. gp3 and gp2 supports volume sizes from 20GB-64TB. So what you currently run is the minimum. Worth noting is also that you can grow storage on your RDS instances without downtime, but you cant shrink it. To go down in size you would have to create a new database and migrate the data over to it.

  • Much appreciate your great answer, thanks a lot, can i upgrade the size within the free tier ?

  • The free tier gives you 20GB of storage and 20GB of backups. "AWS Free Tier includes 750hrs of Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) in a db.t2.micro, db.t3.micro, and db.t4g.micro Instances, 20GB of Storage, and 20GB for Backups each month, for one year."
