Specific Cloudwatch log groups not responding to queries

I want to use Cloudwatch Insights to query some log groups for logged (botocore) data from some functions. For two of these functions, no data is returned when querying for resulting logs, no matter how simple the query. However, they have log groups and a log stream with log messages in them that I can see when manually going to look into the log groups. How can this be?
