Where did Redshift AQUA go?

0

2020 and 2021 there was a lot of news about AQUA accelerated Redshift for RA3 instances.

However I was just looking to enable it on a RA3.XLPLUS cluster and the option no longer appears. The "AQUA enabled" flag no longer shows either.

When searching the redshift docs, the pages referencing AQUA no longer seem to be present, despite still being in the search. Eg this page is still listed if I search for "aqua" but when I click it its gone! https://docs.aws.amazon.com/redshift/latest/mgmt/managing-cluster-aqua.html

Whats happened to AQUA?

I found it in the CLI Reference manual and it said this:

--aqua-configuration-status (string)

This parameter is retired. It does not set the AQUA configuration status. Amazon Redshift automatically determines whether to use AQUA (Advanced Query Accelerator).

  • Very strange that the entire feature line has been removed from all docs even if it is 'automatically managed'. A more plausible explanation is that AWS has withdrawn the feature line and not told anyone unless they were already using it (in which case I suppose its left on).

  • No, it looks like now that all the newer instance types support Aqua, they just made it a managed feature. Here is one of recent what's new announcements: https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2021/09/aqua-amazon-redshift-ra3-xlplus-nodes/

  • Very odd that all the documentation has been deleted. We have a workload that when we tested AQUA earlier in the year was massively improved by its use. However there appears to be no way to enable this now that it is 'managed'. Do you know how we get this enabled?
