Wordpress Issues Lightsail

0

I have a WordPress build running on a LAMP/PHP instance. The site is connected to Cloudflare and was running smoothly after migrating from Dreamhost until last night. I began noticing that plugins were giving me issues installing. Everything appeared to work then I would get a notice a few mins later that the plugin was turned off due to not being able to find the plugin. Sure enough I check via FTP and the files are missing from the plugins folder. I would try and reinstall the plugin and would get an error that the install folder already exists.

When this kind of problem arises, incorrect file and folder permissions are usually to blame. For WordPress to install, update, and manage plugins, certain permissions are needed. Proper file operations can be prevented by mismatched file/folder ownership between the webserver user (such as www-data or apache) and the user you use to access via FTP.

  • It seemed like getting rid of Cloudflare seemed to have resolved the issue. While I know they should be compatible it seems like maybe this was a combination of permissions and caching issues.
