I cannot figure out why I can't log into my ec2 instance. I've tried creating key pairs, uploading key pairs and nothing works

Hi, Instance connect is the right way to go to reconnect. Your situation most often happens on incorrect security group for access to your instance: you sec group MUST allow inbound ssh traffic (that's what Instance Connect uses). So you should have inbound trafic on port 22 allowed in the sec group of your instance.
