What are the limitations for SE2 in the BYOL model if we are using it for the RDS custom for Oracle in AWS? Our on-prem DB is a 2-node RAC with 256 Memory.

Hi,

RDS Custom for Oracle supports Enterprise Edition (EE) and Standard Edition 2 (SE2) on the BYOL model. Since the vCPU is limited to 16 or fewer on the SE2 it is good to have an analysis on the available instance classes on the RDS comparing them to your existing on-prem architecture.

The following are the limitations for Standard Edition 2:

  1. Oracle Data Guard isn't supported. Thus, you can't create Oracle read replicas.
  2. You can only use DB instance classes that have 16 or fewer vCPUs (up to 4xlarge).

  3. A CDB instance on Standard Edition 2 supports a maximum of 3 tenant databases.

  4. You can't migrate data between Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition 2.
