Permission denied to SELECT from table despite giving AWS account permissions

0

When trying to run queries in Athena for a table, I'm getting this error: COLUMN_NOT_FOUND: Column didn't include column name cannot be resolved or requester is not authorized to access requested resources I went into Lake Formation for the account the table is on and granted select permissions to the ARN that I am running Athena from, but I am still getting that error. Do I need to grant permission elsewhere?

Verify it's actually a permissions issue. Run: DESCRIBE database.table; If these fail with the same error, it's almost certainly permissions rather than a SQL issue.

Lake Formation permissions Make sure the principal you're granting to has:

  • DESCRIBE on the database
  • DESCRIBE on the table (or inherited)
  • SELECT on the table

If using column-level permissions, ensure the specific columns are included. A common mistake is granting only SELECT without DESCRIBE.

  • The DESCRIBE command worked, but the SELECT command is still returning the same issue. The principal has Select and Describe permissions for Table and Column level
