If you provisioned an EC2 instance, which is not eligible for free tier then, yes, you'll be charged standard rates for that instance type. AWS free tier provides 750 EC2 hours for Free Tier available EC2 instances such as t2.micro.
Since you are using AWS free tier then you might consider limiting your usage and get alerted when certain threshold reaches. Please refer this re:Post Knowledge Center Article, which has covered almost all the points, which you can consider to avoid any surprising charges.
