Need help adding verifying my third-party domain name for Amazon Work Mail

0

I am currently using Google Workspace for my business's email and am trying to switch over to Amazon Work Mail. I have a domain registered with an outside provider and I am having trouble verifying my domain.

I have two issues as of now:

  1. First, I am unsure if my DNS record setup has been done correctly. For example, Work Mail provides me various record names and values to input onto my DNS settings such as the TXT _amazonses.MYWEBSITE.COM

However, on my DNS console it gives me an input that looks like the following:

[input].MYWEBSITE.COM

(the MYWEBSITE.COM part is hardcoded and untouchable). Does this mean that for my DNS record name I am just to add _amazonses or do I add the full _amazonses.MYWEBSITE.COM to result in

_amazonses.MYWEBSITE.COM.MYWEBSITE.COM

?

Similarly for MX type, Work Mail provides me with the record name: MYWEBSITE.COM. Do I input the entire MYWEBSITE.COM. to result in MYWEBSITE.COM.MYWEBSITE.COM on my DNS console or simply leave it as an @ value on the console?

  1. Second, I have, for now, gone with the former, eg. inputting simply _amazonses as the record name rather than _amazonses.MYWEBSITE.COM. However, on my AWS console I seeing that the verification is still missing and the error reads as:

No TXT record was found for _amazonses.MYWEBSITE.COM. The following TXT record was found for MYWEBSITE.COM: google-site-verification=...

Presumably this has to do with my current Google Workspace set up.

How can I solve these issues and verify my domain so I can start using Amazon Work Mail with it? Thank you very much for your assistance and being patient with me

Hi

DNS Record:

  1. Record Name: You're on the right track! For the record name, you only add the specific name provided by Amazon WorkMail, in this case _amazonses. Do not include your entire domain name (MYWEBSITE.COM) within the record name itself.
  2. Similar to the record name, for the MX record, you likely just enter the value provided by Amazon WorkMail, which might be something like MYWEBSITE.COM (without the trailing dot). This often translates to the "@" symbol in your DNS console, indicating the root of your domain.

TXT Google Issue:

  • Remove Conflicting TXT Record (Optional): If you no longer need Google Workspace for email, you can remove the google-site-verification TXT record from your DNS settings. This will free up space for the Amazon WorkMail verification record.
  • Add Amazon WorkMail TXT Record: Following the instructions provided by Amazon WorkMail, create a new TXT record in your DNS console. Use the specific record name (_amazonses) and value provided by Amazon WorkMail.

  • Hey, thanks for your answer!

So I found out that my verification is throwing an error because it is looking for an RNAME and NAME connected to Wix.com (the website building service which the domain is currently connected to). Would you know how to get around this? The wix DNS records were already connected to the domain and will need to stay connected.
