IoT Data Analytics / Visualizations

Hi, I want to do visualizations and basic analytics for the data that is coming to IoT Core; how can I do it with AWS IoT analytics or any other service?

Hi Sidd. This blog is a good starting point: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/iot/7-patterns-for-iot-data-ingestion-and-visualization-how-to-decide-what-works-best-for-your-use-case/

For your ESP8266 device direct into IoT Core, I would suggest Pattern 4 is likely a good fit. Assuming you are operating in a region that supports Timestream. As discussed in Pattern 4, you can also use Amazon Managed Grafana instead of Amazon QuickSight.

This workshop covers Pattern 4 in depth: https://catalog.us-east-1.prod.workshops.aws/workshops/d74051cc-2575-4d5b-a30a-2169a094efe2/en-US

  • I searched and saw online that some rule needs to be defined then we can get data directly to IoT Analytics from IoT Core. Can you tell more on this?

  • Please check out AWS IoT Core Rules Engine: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/iot/latest/developerguide/iot-rules.html. In particular the IoT Analytics rule action: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/iot/latest/developerguide/iotanalytics-rule-action.html. This workshop may be of interest: https://iot-analytics.workshop.aws/

  • Hi Greg, can't work with Pattern 4 as Timestream is not supported in my region; what other you would suggest? My use case is to plot real-time Data like Speed, Voltage, and Current that are coming from a controller board to ESP8266 and then to the cloud. What alternate should I use?? also I want to plot all the above mentioned variable data in real-time.

  • Hi Sidd. Please refer back to the 7 patterns blog for alternate ideas. The best pattern for you perhaps depends on what AWS services you're already familiar with and what preferences you have for visualizations: Grafana, OpenSearch, QuickSight or custom. Maybe Pattern 6?

  • Hi Greg, I'm also exploring and new to all these visualizations services, I will try to explore more on services that are mentioned in Pattern 6 . Thanks,
