hello. i have purchased sql standard with SA. questions is do i just need to fill and send the License Mobility Agreement Verification Form and what ever info required in the Microsoft volume license account or is there more to do? link to the form. is this form still valid, i used this about 4-5 years ago so not sure if the whole process has been updated. https://pages.awscloud.com/GLOBAL_PM_LN_licensemobility_20210226_701500000016iGp_01.LandingPage.html

next question, i want to use aws managed windows server license but use my own sql standard license. can i just spin up a basic aws prvided windows server ami then install sql after or do i need to import my own ami? this is a brand new sql server building from scratch so i don't have my own ami

thank you in advance

Hello,

You can launch any Amazon owned AMI with Windows without SQL and install your BYOL SQL on it using the License Mobility feature [1][2]. Please note, you will need to complete a license verification check with Microsoft to ensure eligibility [3] which should not be an issue if you currently have a Software Assurance arrangement with Microsoft. Then you could then restore the backed-up databases to the new server. Please follow the following steps below:

1.Please create a backup of the instance in a non-production environment[4]. 2.Launch new Windows Server base EC2 instance 3.Download and Install your BYOL SQL Server Edition 4.Restore the backed-up databases to the new server. 5. Once migration is completed, the old EC2 instance can be terminated leaving only the new Windows Server base EC2 instance running.

Have a great day!
